There was no induction ceremony for Rogers Hornsby, the only successful candidate from that year, as had been the case for Lou Gehrig, elected in a special election in 1939, and as would be the case again for the ten candidates elected in 1942. This was a result of restrictions on travel imposed by World War II, and the issue would not be remedied until 2013. That year, after the [[BBWAA] failed to elect anyone, Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson decided to take the opportunity of having a small induction class with no living members to right this historical wrong by holding a formal induction for all twelve candidates who had been bypassed due to these exceptional circumstances.
