History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 2012 Detroit Tigers never trailed in a game in the 2012 ALCS as they swept the New York Yankees. Detroit became only the second team to perform that feat in a League Championship Series; the other team was also from Detroit, the 1984 Tigers.

The Tigers were only shut out twice in the regular season, the lowest total in the major leagues. However, in the postseason, they suffered three whitewashes, one against the Oakland Athletics in the ALDS, and in Games 2 and 3 of the 2012 World Series at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. They were the first team to be shut out in back-to-back World Series games since the 1966 Los Angeles Dodgers suffered that fate three times in a row against the 1966 Baltimore Orioles in that year's World Series.

The Tigers became the 3rd team to sweep the LCS before being swept in the World Series, joining the 1990 Oakland Athletics and the 2007 Colorado Rockies.
