Recap[edit]

The 2022 Postseason was the first to be played under a new format adopted as part of the 2022 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The number of teams in postseason play increased from five in each league in previous seasons (three division winners and two wild card teams) to six, with the addition of a third wild card team. A new postseason round, the Wild Card Series was created, replacing the Wild Card Game, but the top two division winners in each league benefitted from a bye, sending them directly to the Division Series, while the remaining four teams faced each other in best-of-three series played entirely in the home ballpark of the higher-seeded team. The two winners of the Wild Card Series will then played the two division winners who benefitted from a bye in a best-of-five Division Series. The final two rounds, the League Championship Series and the World Series, remained unchanged.
