He split the summer between the AZL Rangers (2-0, Sv, .060 in 6 G; 22 K, 9 H in 15 IP), Hickory Crawdads (2 R in 3 IP) and Frisco RoughRiders (0-1, 3.00 in 2 G, 13 K in 9 IP). He had 39 K and a 1.00 WHIP in nine games that year. In 2016, he was 8-4 with a save and a 4.34 ERA for the High Desert Mavericks in the high-offense California League. He tied for 6th in the Rangers chain in wins and was 8th in Ks, between Wes Benjamin and Tyler Davis.

Becoming a free agent, he signed with the independent Lake Erie Crushers for 2017 and had a 4-4, 4.37 record. He worked out of the bullpen with the 2018 Gary SouthShore RailCats and was very good (2-2, 12 Sv, 2.01, 60 K in 44 2/3 IP). He tied Cody Winiarski for 10th in the American Association.

He signed with the Acereros de Monclova and was 8-4 with a save and a 3.61 ERA, tying for second on the team in wins. As he was of Mexican descent (both of his parents were born there), he was able to play for Mexico in the 2019 Premier 12. [4] He was far from the only American-born player on the team, which also included Jon Jones, Arturo Reyes, Matt Clark, Phillip Evans, Brennan Bernardino, Horacio Ramirez, Ryan Verdugo, Justin Kelly and Efren Navarro. He had two hitless outings as Mexico won the Bronze for a spot in the 2020 Olympics (which were then postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He debuted against the Dutch national team, relieving Humberto Castenallos in the 6th with a 4-0 lead. He retired Gianfranco Wawoe, walked Kalian Sams then got Curt Smith on a fly and Sicnarf Loopstok on a grounder. Ryan Verdugo took over in the 7th. His other game came in the second round against Australia, relieving Manny Barreda with a 3-0 lead in the 8th. He retired Darryl George, Trent D'Antonio and Tim Kennelly in order before turning the ball over to Fernando Salas. [5]
