Biographical Information[edit]
Al Dwight played twelve games in the 1884 Union Association. His .233 batting average doesn't seem like much until you realize the team's batting average was .199. He primarily played catcher, a position where the regular for the season was Kid Baldwin, who hit .194. Of the ten players who appeared at catcher that year for the team, Dwight had the highest fielding percentage. Five of the ten were teenagers.
Al also played briefly for the St. Paul Apostles that year.
While there have been several players with the first name Dwight, Al is the only one whose last name is Dwight as of June 2019; Eddie Dwight was an All-Star in the Negro Leagues, though.
