Biographical Information[edit]

Amir Asghar has pitched for the Pakistani national team.

Asghar allowed five runs in 1 1/3 IP as a college freshman at Transylvania. He transferred to Bethune-Cookman but did not pitch in 2020-2021. In 2022, he was 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA, striking out 21 in 18 1/3 IP. He was one of several Americans to play for Pakistan in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers due to Pakistani roots. He started their opener versus Argentina and allowed a leadoff double to Sebastián García but struck out Agustín Tissera and Exequiel Talevi. He walked Eduardo Zurbriggen then retired Jacinto Cipriota. In the second, he allowed a walk and a single but struck out two more in another shutout inning. In the third, he left after giving up a one-out single to Talevi; Omar Arif took over with a 1-0 lead but could not hold on. Their other contest, he succeeded Muhammad Zohaib with two outs in the second, one on and a 4-0 deficit and got former major leaguer Cheslor Cuthbert to fly out. In the third, he went 1-2-3 against Elmer Reyes, Luis Montealto and Milkar Perez. The 4th was rough, though, as he allowed four straight singles before Muhammad Aslam came in and all the runners would score. He led Pakistan in IP in the qualifiers, 2/3 ahead of Muhammad Aslam.
