Biographical Information[edit]
Art Frantz played minor league ball from 1940 to 1950, starting out as a pitcher (1940-1942, 1944) then as a shortstop/outfielder (1944-1950). He missed 1943 due to military service, and he also pitched one game in 1953.
Frantz was an umpire in the New York-Penn League from 1958 to 1962 and the Pacific Coast League from 1963 to 1968. He was an American League umpire from 1969 to 1977. He called two no-hitters during his big league career and was crew chief during the 1975 World Series.
