Biographical Information

Records show that Bob Harrison was signed as an amateur free agent by the New York Giants before the 1949 season. They also show that the young fellow pitched for the Jersey City Giants in the International League in 1947, at the age of 16, appearing in 3 games, pitching six innings with no decisions. He disappeared in 1948 and resurfaced in 1949 with the Lawton Giants of the Sooner State League and the 18-year-old won 12 and lost 10 with a 2.98 ERA.

Bob banged around the minors building a 48-60 record before the St. Louis, MO native led the Western League with 270 strikeouts in 1955. He made his major league debut the day after his 25th birthday on September 23, 1955. In his two-inning relief stint, he gave up three base hits while issuing four bases on balls while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles. He made a second and final appearance in a starting role for the Orioles in 1956 and lasted less than two innings, allowing three base hits and walking five, but he was not involved in the decision. This ended Harrison's big league run with no wins and no losses but a 12.27 ERA.

Bob finished out in the minors with the Louisville Colonels going 1-2 in nine appearances in 1958 at age 27, with nine seasons (1947-1958) under his belt and a 66-85 minor league record and a 4.37 ERA. After baseball, Harrison who resided in Lebanon, IN, became president of the Lumberman's Insurance Company in Indianapolis, IN.
