Biographical Information[edit]

Branden Dewing pitched in the minors for three years.

He was 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA as a college freshman but fell to 1-9, 5.66 as a sophomore. He tied for the Western Athletic Conference lead in losses. He improved to 6-6, 4.31 as a junior and 7-6, 3.15 as a senior. He tied for 8th in the WAC in wins and 5th in losses as a junior while leading with 132 hits allowed. His senior year, he was 5th in ERA, tied for 8th in wins and tied for 4th in losses. The Oakland Athletics took him in the 16th round of the 2006 amateur draft.

Dewing split the summer of 2006 between the Vancouver Canadians (Sv, 5 H, 1 R in 10 IP) and Kane County Cougars (0-3, 5.21 in 15 G). In 2007, he was with Kane County (0-1, 2 Sv, 0.64 in 19 G) and the Stockton Ports (2-5, 5.76 in 21 G). He repeated with the same clubs the next year, with 3 saves and one unearned run in 10 1/3 IP for Kane County and 1-1 with a save and a 4.86 ERA in 35 outings for Stockton. On April 9, 2008, he pitched the final 1 1/3 IP of a 7-inning combined no-hitter (with Craig Italiano) for Kane County against the Burlington Bees.

Overall, Branden was 3-10 with 7 saves and a 3.95 ERA in 102 minor league games (6 starts). In 171 innings, he allowed 189 hits and 74 walks while striking out 105.
