Biographical Information

"Next to Walter Johnson, the best man on the Washington team was Carl Sawyer, but he wasn't in the game. He is baseball's newest clown, and he cut up antics on the coaching lines which kept the crowd in good humor." - from an article in the New York Times, April 13, 1916

Carl "Huck" Sawyer was in the majors in 1915 and 1916 with the Washington Senators, getting 37 plate appearances each season.

Sawyer was one of the first major leaguers born in Seattle, WA. Before he came to the majors, he was with the Los Angeles Angels in 1913 and 1914, and the Des Moines Boosters in 1915. He made his major league debut in September 1915.

After his major league days he played four seasons with the Minneapolis Millers and three with the Vernon Tigers.
