Biographical Information

Clayland "Clay" Touchstone was in the majors for three seasons, but he is more famous for two other things: 1) he won 272 games in the minors; and 2) his gap of 16 years between his second major league year (1929) and his third (1945) is one of the top five gaps in major league history.

Clay won in double figures 17 times in the minors, getting 20+ wins with four separate teams. He had no wins in the majors, but then his 12 big league appearances were all in relief.

Touchstone, in addition to his major league appearances, played 17 seasons in the minors and also was the last of four managers of the Oklahoma City Indians in 1942. The team finished in 7th place in the Texas League, with an overall record of 58-95. The team was an affiliate of the New York Giants.

He was the only big league player whose last name started "Tou" until Touki Toussaint came up in 2018.
