Biographical Information[edit]
Curtis Henderson spent seven seasons in the Negro Leagues. He was a backup for the 1936 Homestead Grays and 1937 New York Black Yankees. He hit .125 as an outfielder for the Washington Black Senators in 1938 and .222 as the starting shortstop for the Toledo Crawfords in 1939.
While with the Indianapolis Crawfords in 1940, Henderson was picked to play in the 1940 East-West Game. He succeeded Leroy Morney (who had made four errors) at shortstop and went 0 for 1 before leaving for pinch-hitter Jelly Taylor. Henderson hit .294 as the starting shortstop for the Chicago American Giants of 1941 then ended his career as a backup with the 1942 New York Black Yankees.
