Biographical Information[edit]
Dick Bliek founded the baseball team The Caps in 1976. He umpired in the Netherlands, reaching the second-highest league. He was active in the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Association, serving on the board from 1984-1992, chairing the softball side for several years. He was later an umpire commissioner. He was chair of the UVV team from 1997-1999. His son Jirka Bliek later played for UVV and his daughter Dyonne Bliek was the team's physical therapist. He also helped push for the development of baseball in Eastern Europe following the fall of the Soviet Union. Away from baseball, he was a hotel consultant.
