Biographical Information

Illinois native Ed Busch spent eight active seasons in professional baseball from 1938 to 1945.

Ed saw time in three big league seasons, debuting with the Philadelphia A's on September 30, 1943 and appearing in four games before the season's end. He picked up 5 hits in 17 at-bats, hitting .294. Ed was with the 1944 squad as a regular, primarily at shortstop, playing 140 games and hitting .271. Busch finished his major league time with the A's in 1945, playing 126 games in the final wartime season and hitting .250. During his time in the bigs, Busch hit .262 (240-for-917), slugging zero home runs. A solid infielder, Ed crafted a .946 fielding percentage.

Busch also played six seasons in the minors, enjoying two really good years. His first, with the Springfield Browns of the Three I League in 1940, saw him hit .302 in 126 games. Before being called up in 1943, Ed was with the Elmira Pioneers of the Class B Eastern League and hit .303 (159-for-524), appearing in 133 games. Ed left the game after the 1945 season, having appeared in 737 minor league games, hitting .283 (804-for-2,836).

After baseball, Busch worked for the city of O'Fallon, Illinois. He died at 69 on January 17, 1987 in St.Clair Co., IL.
