Biographical Information[edit]

Elmer Reyes has played as high as AAA.

Reyes signed with the Atlanta Braves in 2009; the scout was Marvin Throneberry. He debuted with the DSL Braves that summer and hit .275/.367/.358 while fielding .941 at short. In 2010, the Nicaraguan played for the GCL Braves (8 for 22, HR, 2 BB, 3 SB) and Danville Braves(.294/.347/.469, 15 2B in 53 G). He was named Danville's Player of the Year. He played primarily 2B for Danville, fielding .983. In 2011, Reyes was with both Danville (.262/.315/.380, 15 2B) and the Rome Braves (just .177/.228/.245 in 64 G).

Reyes was better in a full season with Rome, producing at a .251/.296/.391 clip with 6 triples and 26 doubles in 2012; he fielded .947 at SS. He tied for 6th in the South Atlantic League in triples. He went 1 for 4 for the Nicaraguan national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, getting his lone hit off Gilberto Méndez. For the 2013 Lynchburg Hillcats, he batted .285/.321/.406 with 30 doubles. He missed the Carolina League top 10 in average by .001 behind Kevan Smith and was 8th in doubles. Among Braves farmhands, he was 4th in doubles. In the fall, he hit .256/.347/.349 for the Scottsdale Scorpions, backing up Alen Hanson at SS.

In 2014, he played for the Mississippi Braves (.303/.339/.417 in 58 G) and Gwinnet Braves (.286/.318/.427 in 55 G), with 32 doubles but only 12 walks. Among Atlanta's minor leaguers, only Kevin Ahrens had more two-baggers. He started at short for the Tigres del Licey of the Dominican Winter League, with a batting line of .289/.329/.338. After a low start for Gwinnett in 2015 (.216/.258/.279 in 30 G), he was charged with rape and then let go by Atlanta in early August. Picked up by the independent Long Island Ducks at the end of August, he hit .380/.389/.746 with 6 homers in 18 games. He batted only .196/.252/.243 that winter for the Indios de Mayagüez of the Puerto Rican League.

Reyes hit .313/.389/.375 for Nicaragua in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and drove in their only run in their loss to Mexico in the finale, doubling off Arturo Barradas to bring in Dwight Britton. He was signed by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in March of 2016, but was released in April.

In 2017, he played again for the Ducks, batting .302/.346/.394 with 28 doubles while fielding .991 at 2B. He tied Alonzo Harris for 9th in the Atlantic League in doubles and was 5th with 141 hits. In the 2017 Central American Games, he hit .278/.409/.611 in the round-robin phase for Nicaragua, homering in game 1 off Bernardo Moreno. He tied Byron Palma for 3rd in slugging, behind Juan Colato and Gerald Chin. In the Gold Medal Game, his two-run homer in the 4th off Davis Romero helped Nicaragua come back from a 1-0 deficit against Panama to claim Gold. He and Fabián Vizcaíno were the only players with multiple homers in the tournament.
