Biographical Information[edit]
The brother of shortstop Mario Guerrero, Epy Guerrero was a Toronto Blue Jays coach in 1981. He is also the father of Epy Guerrero Jr. and Mike Guerrero. He coached for the Dominican national team when they won a Silver Medal in the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games.
As a scout, Guerrero signed 37 big league players, among them Tony Fernandez and Carlos Delgado. He was closely associated with Hall of Fame executive Pat Gillick, who first hired him when he worked for the Houston Astros in 1965, and then took him to Toronto. He left the Blue Jays' employ in 1995, shortly after Gillick's replacement by Gord Ash.
Guerrero died of kidney failure at age 71 in 2013.
