Biographical Information[edit]
Ernie Gust (also known as Red Gust) had twelve plate appearances for the St. Louis Browns in 1911. In the minors, Ernie had hit .354 that year, getting him the chance at the bigs. During 1913-1915, he played for the Savannah Colts.
Ernie was remembered in 2012 when Nick Johnson went 0-for-26 at the start of his career with the Baltimore Orioles. A reporter wrote about others in Oriole history who had started their time with the team without a hit while getting at least ten at-bats. Ernie played for the a Browns team that was a predecessor to today's Orioles. [1]
