Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Fernando Martinez was signed by scouts Rafael Bournigal, Sandy Johnson, and Eddy Toledo for the New York Mets in 2005 for a $1.5 million bonus. He made his pro debut the next summer.
Martinez was named MVP of the 2010 Caribbean Series. He hit .348 with 2 homers and 4 RBI in leading the Leones del Escogido to a 5-1 record and the tournament's honors.
Martinez accepted a 50-game suspension resulting from MLB's investigation of the Biogenesis Laboratories on August 5, 2013. He was playing in the minor leagues at the time.
Martinez was outfield coach for the DSL Royals White in 2021 and DSL Royals Stewart in 2022. He was then hitting coach for the DSL Royals Gold in 2023.
