Team History[edit]
The Fort Myers Miracle are the only professional baseball team that played at least one game in all four Lee County stadiums that have been the regular home of a pro ball club: Hammond Stadium, which hosted the Miracle from 1990 through 2019 and the rebranded Fort Myers Mighty Mussels since; the Red Sox' jetBlue Park, during a 2015 Hammond renovation; Park T. Pagett Memorial Stadium (located in Terry Park and better known by that or as Terry Park Ballfield) in 2006, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the recreational park in which it sits; and City of Palms Park in 2018, specifically to complete the set.
The franchise's 1962 founding as the Miami Marlins was not prescient; rather, it saluted the Triple-A Miami team that had moved to Puerto Rico.
A group that included Mike Veeck, the son of legendary baseball promoter Bill Veeck, and actor Bill Murray bought the flailing Miami Miracle in 1990, promptly moving the club to Fort Myers, building it into a success, and selling it in 2014.
The 1992 co-op team had 25 players supplied by the Minnesota Twins, seven from the Texas Rangers, five from the Cleveland Indians, and one each from the Florida Marlins and Kansas City Royals.
In December 2019, three weeks after taking the helm, new club president Bob Ohrablo announced the team would drop its long-time Miracle nickname.[1]
