Biographical Information[edit]

Gabriel Maciel has played in the minors.

Maciel participated in the MLB Elite Camp in Brazil in 2014-2015. He was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015. He made his pro debut in 2016 with the AZL Diamondbacks (.289/.341/.309 in 37 G) and Missoula Osprey (.266/.318/.291 in 23 G). He scored 43 runs in his 60 games and stole 22 bases in 27 tries; despite playing in short-season leagues, he was 6th in the Diamondbacks chain in swipes.

He was the starting center fielder for the Brazilian national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He hit .250/.357/.250 with two runs and three steals in three games. He got Brazil's first run of the tournament. In the third inning of their opener against Pakistan, he singled off Inayat Khan and was later driven in by Leonardo Reginatto. He finished the game with a single off Asrar Ahmad to drive in Fernando Luciano in the 7th, making it a 10-0 mercy rule game. He tied Reginatto for the most steals in any of the four qualifiers that year.

On July 27, 2018, he was one of three prospects sent to the Minnesota Twins in return for major league infielder Eduardo Escobar.
