Biographical Information[edit]
Hans Lobert is the most prominent player to come out of Carnegie Institute of Technology. He was a good-hitting third baseman who played 14 years in the majors. He appeared for five of the eight National League teams, playing his whole career in the senior circuit. He also stole over 300 bases in his career, with over 40 bases per year in his prime.
After his playing career ended, Hans Lobert was the coach at the United States Military Academy from 1918 to 1925. He was a New York Giants coach in 1928. He was a member of the Philadelphia Phillies staff from 1934 to 1941, before managing the team for the 1942 season; it was a hapless team that lost 109 games. His best players included Nick Etten and Danny Litwhiler. He then joined the Cincinnati Reds in 1943 and 1944. He was later a scout for the Giants from 1945 to 1967.
Hans had a brother, Frank Lobert, who played third base for one season in the Federal League.
