Biographical Information[edit]
Jack Harding played in the minors and was a college coach, but was more noted for his time in football.
Harding played quarterback at Pitt. Signing with the St. Louis Cardinals, he played for the 1926 Syracuse Chiefs, backing up Pepper Martin at 2B and Karl Urban at SS. He hit .268/~.301/.302. Having to decide between playing baseball and coaching college football, he opted for the latter, starting off at St. Thomas College. He coached the University of Miami baseball team in 1940 and 1959, going 16-14-1. He was 103-69-2 as a head football coach and won the 1945 Orange Bowl with Miami and also was 119-56 as a college basketball head coach. He served in the Navy in 1943-1944 and was also Athletic Director at Miami from 1948-1963.
