Biographical Information[edit]

Jack Neagle, who stood 5' 6", pitched three seasons in the major leagues.

The only other major leaguer named Neagle (through 2009) came more than one hundred years later: Denny Neagle.

Although Jack's win-loss record looks bad, he mostly pitched for bad teams. With the Pittsburgh Alleghenys in 1884, he had a record of 11-26 but his ERA of 3.73 was the best on the entire team.

On the other hand, in the previous year, 1883, his ERA of 5.57 in the 1883 American Association was much worse than the league ERA of 3.30, and his ERA of 6.90 in the 1883 National League was much worse than the league ERA of 3.14 (his team had an ERA of 5.34).
