Jack Salveson played 21 seasons in professional ball, of which 5 were in the majors and 16 were in the PCL. He pitched quickly, once finishing a game in one hour twenty minutes, and tried to keep his pitch count under 100. He eschewed the "fancy pitches" such as the screwball and slider, preferring the fastball.

He won over 200 games while in the Pacific Coast League. In 2005 he was elected to the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame.

He appeared in the movies Pride of the Yankees (a biography of Lou Gehrig), and The Winning Team (about Grover Cleveland Alexander) playing a pitcher.

Was one of the pitchers in the original Home Run Derby, filmed at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, CA.
