Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Jake Peter was a 7th-round selection by the Chicago White Sox in the 2014 amateur draft, out of Creighton University. He began his professional career that season with the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League and also spent time with the Winston-Salem Dash of the Carolina League before the year was out. In 60 games, he hit a solid .332/.385/.477, the bulk of his damage being done at Great Falls, where he hit a scorching .388 in 37 games. He spent all of 2015 at Winston-Salem, hitting .260 in 130 games with 3 homers, 76 runs and 57 RBIs. He then split 2016 almost equally between the AA Birmingham Barons and the AAA Charlotte Knights, hitting .283/.350/.376 in 130 games. In spite of that success, he again split 2017 between the same two teams, but this time spent a greater proportion of his time in the Southern League. He continued to be a productive hitter, at .279/.344/.417. While second base was his main position over those four seasons, he also appeared regularly at third base and the outfield, as the White Sox were looking at him as a future utility player, especially with Yoan Moncada having been clearly identified as their second baseman of the future.

With his future likely blocked in Chicago, it was a good thing for him to be traded on January 4, 2018, to the Los Angeles Dodgers, in return for major league relievers Luis Avilan and Joakim Soria. With an aging Chase Utley and an inconsistent Logan Forsythe manning second base for the Dodgers, there was at least an opportunity for him to show what he could do at the major league level.
