Jianwang Zhang pitched for the Chinese national team and for the Beijing Tigers. In the 2002 World University Championship, he was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. During the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, Zhang had a 0-1, 6.43 record with six walks in 7 innings. He pitched in the 2002 Asian Games, 2003 Asian Championship and 2005 Asian Championship (when China won Bronze, their first medal in an Asian Championship). In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he was roughed up badly, yielding 12 hits (7 for extra bases, including 3 homers), 3 walks and 13 runs in only 3 2/3 IP as China's worst pitcher.
