Biographical Information

Jim "Red" Callahan was in one game in the majors, on May 25, 1902, with the New York Giants. He was 21 years old at the time. He was the lead-off batter in the game against the Chicago Orphans, which Chicago won, 3-1.

Callahan was born, and died, in Pennsylvania, and played several years of minor league ball in the Ohio-Pennsylvania League. There is also a "Red Callahan" who played in 1912-1913 for teams in Pittsburgh, PA, who might possibly have been the same person.

He should not be confused with his contemporary Jimmy Callahan, also known as "Nixey" Callahan, who was playing for the Chicago White Sox in the year when Jim Callahan came to the majors.

In the last game with Chicago Fogel sprung a new outfielder named Callahan, and he lasted one game.
