Biographical Information

Jim Pascarella was a minor league infielder for two years. He is most notable for performing in the first game umpired by a woman. Jim was a 23rd-round draft choice of the Texas Rangers in the 1972 amateur draft, taken two rounds before they selected Mike Hargrove. Pascarella debuted with the Geneva Senators, hitting .237/~.326/.401 in 46 games. He fielded .972 at second base. In the first game umpired by Bernice Gera, Pascarella snared a liner and threw to SS Brian Doyle to seemingly retire Terry Ford at second. Gera initially ruled Ford safe then reversed herself. Auburn Phillies manager Nolan Campbell protested and got thrown out of the game. It would be Gera's lone game as an umpire. Pascarella briefly also played that year for the Pittsfield Rangers, going 4 for 17 with 4 walks in 8 games.

In 1973, Pascarella was with the Gastonia Rangers. With Doyle playing second, he got bumped to third, where he fielded just .896, and the outfield, where he was much sharper. Pascarella batted .256/~.337/.384 with 12 steals in 17 tries and nine home runs. He just missed the Western Carolinas League top 10 in average. It was his last season playing pro baseball.
