Biographical Information

Jim Tyack played 54 games for the wartime Philadelphia Athletics at the age of 32 in 1943. He was a long-time minor leaguer (13 seasons) who also managed twice in the minors.

Jim, although born in Montana, largely grew up in California. He was a four-sport star in high school and then continued to do four sports in college. He was called "Jack Rabbit Jim" due to his speed in sprints. He also played semi-pro baseball.

When he made the majors, his salary was less than his minor league salary had been. The rap on Tyack was always that his range in the outfield was not good enough. After his pro baseball days, he continued to play semi-pro ball, owned a truck company and started a tire company.
