Biographical Information

Jim Woods was one of six 17-year-olds ("baseball age") who broke into the majors in 1957. He actually turned age 18 a few days before his debut. He had come out of Lane Technical High School in Chicago, IL, and appeared in two games for the Chicago Cubs in 1957, a team which featured the 26-year-old Ernie Banks.

Woods later played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1960 and 1961, after being included in the Richie Ashburn trade. Traded with him was Alvin Dark, who became the regular third baseman for the Phillies in 1960 (until traded away), while Woods appeared in 11 games at the position.

In 2023, it was reported that he had died, although exact details were not immediately available.
