Biographical Information[edit]
As his playing career wound down in 1941, DeShong managed the Allentown Wings. He then served as a non-playing manager for the Lincoln A's for the 1948, 1949, and 1950 seasons. In 1951, he managed the Cordele A's for the latter part of the season.
While shooting video of players warming up for the 1937 All-Star Game, DeShong captured one of the few clips of Franklin D. Roosevelt walking. In 2014, the footage was donated to the Pennsylvania State Archives by DeShong's daughter. It was also used in a Ken Burns documentary on the Roosevelt family released that year.
