Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Joe Becker played two seasons for the Cleveland Indians in 1936 and 1937 and had a long minor league career. Joe got his big league break after hitting .372 for the San Francisco Seals in 1935. His teammate, the young Joe DiMaggio, had the highest average on the team at .398. After serving in the Navy during World War II, missing 1944-1945, he managed in the minors for several years. He went on to serve as pitching coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1955 to 1964, the St. Louis Cardinals in 1965 and 1966 and the Chicago Cubs from 1967 to 1970.
