Biographical Information

Pitcher John Terry's playing record was erroneously attached to the wrong person when the first Baseball Encyclopedia was compiled. There is no evidence that John Burchard Terry, whose birth and death details were originally listed next to the pitcher, ever actually played baseball at any point of his life. Further research into the matter by SABR in 2010 confirmed that the player was in fact John Baxter Terry living in St. Louis, MO at the time.

After his playing career, the real Terry ran a wholesale business after returning to his native Cedar Rapids, IA, where he died in 1958.
