Biograhical information[edit]
Julio Lugo was released by the Houston Astros during the 2003 season after ongoing legal problems, including alleged assault on his wife. He is the brother of pitcher Ruddy Lugo. He played 12 seasons while appearing in the postseason with four different teams: the Astros in 2001, the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006, the Boston Red Sox in 2007, with whom he won the World Series and the St. Louis Cardinals in 2009. At his best, he was a good fielder at shortstop who also hit better than the average player at the position.
He was one day short of his 46th birthday when he died of an apparent heart attack in November of 2021.
