Biographical Information[edit]

Manny Montejo pitched pretty well during his time in the majors. He came up in an expansion year with the 1961 Detroit Tigers, a team which won 101 games. The league's ERA was 4.02, while Manny's was 3.86. His WHIP was 1.163, much better than the league average. Manny appeared in 12 games, pitching 16 1/3 innings and getting 15 strikeouts.

His brother, Silvio Montejo, played for the Cuban national team from 1969-1971. Manny moved back to Cuba after his short major league career, but there was no record of what happened to him afterwards, until researchers from SABR managed to establish contact with Silvio through a Cuban sportswriter in 2014. Silvio confirmed that his brother had died of cancer a number of years earlier and that he is buried in Colon Cemetery in Havana.

He was also known as Pete or Pepe.
