Biographical Information[edit]

Mark Carreon was signed as an 8th round pick in the 1981 amateur draft by the New York Mets and scout Roger Jongewaard. While his career was certainly not award-winning, Carreon can always say that he was drafted 14 picks ahead of a young high school prospect, Mark McGwire. Carreon debuted just six days after his dad, former catcher Cam Carreon, passed away and hung around in parts of ten seasons in the big leagues, 1987 to 1996. His penultimate season, 1995, was his finest, when he batted .301/.343/.490 with 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 117 games for the San Francisco Giants. A veteran of two seasons with the Chiba Lotte Marines following his MLB days, Mark had a career .280 batting average as a pinch hitter (prior to 1995) and remains the Mets all-time leader in pinch hit home runs with 8. In the minors, he was the South Atlantic League runs scored leader in 1982.
