Pitcher Mike Hogan was drafted five times, then spent seven seasons playing professional baseball. He briefly peaked at Triple A in 1988, his final campaign.

He was initially taken by the Chicago Cubs 12th overall in the Regular Phase of the 1980 January Draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Tony Ghelfi. He was then taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 2nd round of the Secondary Phase of the 1980 June draft, ahead of future major leaguers Al Newman and Donnie Hill. The California Angels took him in the 2nd round of the Secondary Phase of the 1981 January draft, then the San Francisco Giants took him in the 3rd round of the Secondary Phase of the 1981 June draft, ahead of future All-Star John Kruk. He finally signed a contract after the Houston Astros took him in the 2nd round of the Secondary phase of the 1982 June draft, two picks ahead of pitcher Alex Madrid.

He started off well, going 5-2 with a 1.82 ERA in 10 starts for the Auburn Astros in 1982. He followed that up with a 14-3, 3.62 season with the Daytona Beach Astros in 1983. After declining production over the next couple seasons, he joined the Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays system for 1986, then the San Francisco Giants system for 1987 and 1988. His 1987 was noteworthy, as he went 4-2 with a 1.48 ERA in 35 games (4 starts) between two clubs. In his only career stint at Triple A in 1988, he had a 10.80 ERA in 5 games for the Phoenix Firebirds.
