Biographical Information

Milt Thompson played 13 major league seasons as an outfielder, exclusively for National League teams. His career batting average of .274 came with limited power but he was a good fielder who could man all three outfield positions. Thompson also displayed excellent speed, which he used to collect 214 stolen bases over his time in the bigs. He played in the 1993 World Series for the Philadelphia Phillies, hitting .294 and slugging .647 in his team's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

He was the minor league outfield/baserunning coordinator of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1997. He re-joined the Phillies' organization as a coach for the Reading Phillies in 1998-1999. From 2000 to 2003, he was the Phillies' minor league outfield/baserunning coordinator. Thompson was a member of the Phillies' major league coaching staff from 2004 to July 22, 2010, including for the win in the 2008 World Series. In 2011 he joined the Houston Astros as minor-league outfield and baserunning instructor. From 2013 to 2016 Thompson served as the Kansas City Royals outfield, bunting and baserunning coordinator while also taking on hitting coach duties for the 2014 Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks. He spent 2017 to 2019 in the Cincinnati Reds organization as a hitting coordinator.
