Biographical Information

Motoki Mukoyama played for the Japan national baseball team. His father Takayasu Mukoyama was also a Japan national baseball team player.

Mukoyama played for NTT East Japan in the Industrial League after college. He represented Japan in the 2022 Asian Games. He debuted against the Philippines, pinch-hitting for Seifu Suzuki in the 8th inning but Kennedy Torres retired him. He then recorded a RBI sacrifice fly against Khounchleun Soulapixa of Laos. He was 0-for-3 in the next game, then ground into a double play against Ji-min Choi of South Korea when he pinch-hit for Suzuki in the 7th inning. Mutoyama went 2-for-3 with a RBI single against Yen-Cheng Wang of Chinese Taipei. In the Bronze Medal Game, he was 0-for-3 with a walk against Chaoqun Zheng to help Japan beat China and win the Bronze. He handled 3 chances error-free combined in center field for the event.

He then hit .400/.444/.480 with ten RBI in six games when Japan won the 2023 Asian Championship, with eight putouts in the outfield (manning all three spots at various times). He had 6 RBI in their opener versus Pakistan and had the only RBI in the 1-0 finale against host Taiwan when he singled off Jo-Hsi Hsu to bring in Yukiya Yano. He won MVP for his efforts. He tied for 6th in runs (5), led in hits (10, 2 ahead of Namoh Iyang, Hsiao-Yun Chen and Chen-Fei Lin), tied for 4th in doubles (2), led in RBI (two ahead of Seung-yeop Na), tied Beom-seok Kim for second in total bases (12, one behind Iyang), tied Chen for 5th in average and tied for 6th with 3 swipes.
