Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Paul Mutch played in the Minnesota Twins system from 2001 to 2003.
Mutch was with the Internationals in the 2001 International Baseball League of Australia, with a 8.44 ERA in 10 games; he allowed 19 walks and 20 hits in 16 innings. He was 1-0 with a 8.39 ERA in 17 games (one start) for the GCL Twins in 2001. With the Queensland Rams for the 2002 Claxton Shield, he turned in one solid start, against South Australia. He allowed only 3 hits and fanned seven in six innings, though he did walk six and threw three wild pitches; he gave up 2 earned runs.
Paul went 5-3 with a 2.95 ERA in 12 games (eight starts) for the GCL club in 2002 (tying for 9th in the Gulf Coast League in wins) and 0-1 with a 3.33 ERA in 18 games (one start) for the Elizabethton Twins in 2003. He was 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA in two games for Queensland in the 2004 Claxton Shield. Overall, he was 6-2 with a 4.29 ERA in 47 games (10 starts) in the US and 1-0 with a 6.40 ERA in 13 games (3 starts) in Australia.
Mutch suffered from a heart condition known as Wolff Parkinson White syndrome, but had elected not to have surgery. [1] He collapsed while training and died at 21 years of age.
