Biographical Information[edit]

Paul Schmitz has played in the Bundesliga; an early coach was his brother Max Schmitz. [1]

He was 1-2 with a 3.50 ERA for Germany in the 2018 U-15 Baseball World Cup, losing to Brazil and Taiwan and beating South Africa. He tied for second in the event in losses and tied Kyohei Akiyama for third in K (14). [2] He debuted with the Bonn Capitals in 2021; the 17-year-old pitched two shutout innings (2 H, 2 BB, 3 K). [3] He was superb when Germany finished third in the 2021 U-18 European Championship, beating Spain and allowing one unearned run only on two hits in 8 2 /3 IP, striking out 20; control was an issue as he walked ten and threw two wild pitches. He led the event in ERA, was 3rd in IP (after Itai Spinoza and Connor Prins), led in K (by 6) and led in walks (by 2). [4] Pitching for Bonn in the 2021 European Champions Cup, he got a crucial start against Neptunus but struggled as Stijn van der Meer singled, John Polonius walked, Dwayne Kemp singled in a run, a wild pitch scored Polonius, Roger Bernadina walked and Gianison Boekhoudt singled to make it 4-0. Maurice Wilhelm took over and Bonn rallied for a comeback win to make up for Schmitz's infinite ERA day. Bonn became the first German team in 11 years to make the finals, getting the Silver Medal.
