Recreation Park (Philadelphia)

From BR Bullpen

Recreation Park in Philadelphia, PA was the home of the first team called the Philadelphia Phillies, who played in the minor league League Alliance in 1882. It then became the home of the Philadelphia Quakers (the ancestors of the present-day Philadelphia Phillies) from 1883 to 1886 after the team was admitted to the National League.

When the ballpark was built early in 1882, municipal authorities declared that it "will be placed in first-class condition for base ball, football, lacrosse and lawn-tennis; also bicycle and pedestrian performances." Hence its all-encompassing name, when most ballparks at the time had "baseball grounds" or something equivalent in their nomenclature.
