Biographical Information[edit]
Ron Gideon spent seven seasons playing in the minors in the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets farm systems.
Gideon was a coach for the St. Lucie Mets in 1991 and Binghamton Mets in 1992. He was the Colorado Rockies' Minor League field coordinator from 2006-2011. In 2013 the Colorado Rockies added a "development supervisor" position for each of its minor league affiliates. Gideon was tabbed for the Tri-City Dust Devils in 2013, Tulsa Drillers in 2014 and New Britain Rock Cats in 2015 in that role. In 2017, he was named to the coaching staff of the major league Rockies with his primary duty being to work with Ian Desmond on his transition from the outfield to first base. In 2019, he added the first base coach responsibility to his duties.
Gideon's son, Ronnie Gideon, was drafted by the Rockies in the 2013 amateur draft. He continued on to college and was a sophomore infielder on the Texas A&M University team playing in the 2015 CWS Super Regionals.
