Russelll Triplett reached AA as a player then became a college coach.

Triplett won a state high school title in 1998. He was a redshirt freshman at Clemson in 2001 and hit .291 as a backup middle infielder; he was behind Khalil Greene at shortstop. In 2002, he improved to .301 as a sophomore, playing second base and DH. Clemson made it to the 2002 College World Series. As team captain in 2003, he put up a .335 average and .414 OBP, succeeding Greene at short. He tied for 10th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in average and was second-team All-Conference behind Stephen Drew. As a senior, he hit .304 while retaining his captain role; he only missed one inning all year.

Turning pro, Russell was with the 2004 Brooklyn Cyclones (0 for 4) and Kingsport Mets (.288/.363/.379). In 2005, he was with the Hagerstown Suns (.265/.366/.426 in 43 G) and AA Binghamton Mets (.333/.386/.476 in 18 G) to conclude his pro career with a composite line of .284/.364/.406.

Triplett next was a coach. He was a volunteer assistant coach when Clemson went to the 2006 College World Series, then was at USC Upstate from 2007-2010 as an assistant. In 2011, he became head coach of Newberry College.
