Biographical information

Starting pitcher Sam Amoriello pitched in the minor leagues from 1947 to 1950.

He served in the US Navy during World War II. He began his career at the age of 22 in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, going 5-14 with a 4.76 ERA in 35 games for the the Class-D Leesburg Pirates. He tied for third int he Florida State League in losses. In 1948, also with Leesburg, he was 15-9 with a 2.61 ERA in 30 games, allowing only 190 hits and 57 walks in 221 innings. This time, he missed the FSL top 10 in wins by only one. With the Anderson Rebels in 1949, Amoriello was 6-13 with a 4.32 ERA in 32 games, tying for third in the Tri-State League in defeats. He wrapped up his career with the Reidsville Luckies in 1950, going 12-9 with a 4.47 ERA in 32 games.

Overall, Amoriello was 38-45 with a 3.94 ERA in 129 games. He pitched 735 innings and allowed 785 hits and 266 walks. He later worked for Duke Energy at Belews Creek for over 35 years and volunteered for the Wentworth Fire Department.
