Catcher Sammy Lauwers has played in the Belgian First Division. He debuted at age 15, going 6 for 23 with 2 triples and a walk for Antwerp in 1999. In 2000, Lauwers hit .269/.380/.269. He batted .211/.280/.256 in 2001 and .187/.205/.187 in '02. In 2003, he hit .207/.305/.256. He was 1 for 5 in the 2003 European Championship.

Lauwers hit .265/.368/.286 in 2004, .238/.290/313 in 2005, .282/.325/.346 in 2006, .258/.367/.312 in 2007 (when he joined the Hoboken Pioneers) and .195/.271/.274 in '08. He still made Belgium's team for the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, in which he was 1 for 8 with two walks. He produced at a .157/.224/.169 rate in 2009.
