Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Donald "Spin" Williams played in the Pittsburgh Pirates chain from 1979 to 1981.
Williams was a coach for the Greenwood Pirates in 1982-1983, Prince William Pirates in 1984, Nashua Pirates in 1985-1986, Harrisburg Senators in 1987-1988, Salem Buccaneers in 1989, Harrisburg again in 1990, Carolina Mudcats in 1991, Buffalo Bisons in 1992 and Carolina again in 1993. He was then a member of the Pirates coaching staff from 1994 to 2005.
In June 2009, Williams became pitching coach of the Syracuse Chiefs when Steve McCatty was promoted to the Washington Nationals. In 2011, Williams was named the Nationals' minor league pitching coordinator. In 2015, he became a senior adviser for player development.
