Biographical information

Stefan Gartrell played in the minor leagues from 2006 to 2013, then returned in independent baseball in 2015. He spent part or all of five seasons at Triple-A, but never reached the major leagues.

He was drafted by the White Sox in the 31st round of the 2006 amateur draft, being signed by scout Adam Virchis.

He began his professional career in 2006, splitting the year between the Bristol White Sox (61 games) and the Birmingham Barons, hitting a combined .301 in 66 games. In 2007, he played for the Kannapolis Intimidators (95 games) and Winston-Salem Warthogs (20 games), hitting .299 with 14 home runs, 63 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 115 games. He spent all of 2008 with Birmingham, hitting .254 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI. In 2009, he played for the Birmingham (101 games) and the Triple-A Charlotte Knights (31 games), hitting a combined .281 with 23 home runs and 89 RBI in 132 games. He began 2010 with the Knights and hit .255 with 27 home runs and 80 RBI in 139 games with them. In 2011, he hit .262 with 26 home runs and 94 RBI in 123 games between Charlotte and the Atlanta Braves Triple-A club, the Gwinnett Braves - who he joined after being traded by the White Sox for cash considerations. With Gwinnett, he hit .251 with 20 home runs and 55 RBI in 122 games. He became a free agent for 2013 and was re-signed by the White Sox, but was let go before the season began. He joined the Piratas de Campeche in the Mexican League and played for them briefly before the Braves signed him in late May. He rejoined Gwinnett. Overall, he hit .274 with 9 home runs and 36 RBI in 81 games that year. After not playing in 2014, he hit .279/.349/.504 with 18 home runs and 71 RBI in 99 games between the independent Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks and Amarillo Thunderheads in 2015.

In 993 games between the minors and indy leagues, Gartrell hit .270 with 155 home runs and 571 RBI.
