Biographical Information[edit]

Stover McIlwain was a pitcher in 1957 and 1958 with the Chicago White Sox. He made his debut when he was only 17 years old. He had been at Rollins College in 1957 and was signed by the White Sox that year, making his debut the same season. His major league career consisted of one game in September 1957 and one game in September 1958. He had a lifetime major league ERA of 1.80.

He started one game in his major league career. It was on September 28, 1958 on the final day of the season, against the Kansas City Athletics. He pitched 4 innings, giving up 4 hits, one earned run, walking none and striking out four. His lone run was on a home run by Lou Klimchock, who at 18 was even younger than Stover; in fact it was the first time in major league history that a teenager had homered against another teenager.

He died of cancer at the age of 26.
