Biographical Information

Taek-jae Kwon played for almost a decade for the South Korean national team but never played in the pro ranks. He won Silver with South Korea in the 1985 Intercontinental Cup as an infielder, then also took Silver in the 1986 Amateur World Series. He played in the 1987 Intercontinental Cup. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he hit .417/.444/.417 with 6 RBI in 8 games; he backed up Kyung-ki Kim at 1B and Ki-woong Kang at DH. He tied Kang and Jae-woo Baek for 3rd on the team in RBI and had their best average and OBP.

Kwon hit .300 in the 1988 Olympics, splitting first base with Kyung-ki Kim. South Korea finished third but baseball was not a medal event He won Gold in the 1989 Asian Championship. He backed up Sung-bo Shim at 1B in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, batting .306/.400/.308 with five runs in five games and three steals in three tries. He won Bronze in the 1991 Asian Championship. He was easily South Korea's oldest player in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, batting .357/.500/.571 with 5 runs and 5 RBI while splitting 1B with Sung-yong Lee.
